Motor unit of the
type 840 The motor unit of
the type 840 is designed for suburban and regional transport. It is a vehicle of similar
constructional features as those used in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Greece.
ŽOS Vrútky JSC as a head of consortium, together with its consortium partners Stadler
Fahrzeuge AG and Bombardier Transportation manufactured the unit for Železničná
spoločnosť JSC.

In its construction the motor unit of the
type 840 meets all requirements for public train transport on suburban and regional
railways. The motor unit consists of three parts: two aluminium terminal carriages for
passengers and a steel corridor middle driving part. The floor of the carriages in
getting-on and getting-off areas is on the same level as that of station platforms.
Double winged entrance door is controlled electropneumatically. Holders for bicycles,
skis, baby prams, vehicles for the handicapped, as well as racks for other kind of luggage
are installed inside the carriages. There is also a lifting platform for use by disabled
travellers.
There are 94 seats, 16 tip-up seats and a place for 119 standing passengers in the modern
carriage interior. Large windows with tinted glass offer very nice view of surrounding
country.The unit is equipped with electronic information system informing passengers about
the next stop/station, further railway connections etc. both visually and in sound.The
hygienic module with vacuum toilet system is located in the unit. The construction of the
transit middle part minimizes noise and vibration overload.
The unit is equipped with three braking systems:
1. Electrodynamic brake - controlled by microprocessors, with action in driving axles
2. Electropneumatic brake - mechanical brake with action in all axles
3. Spring brake - parking brake with action in all axles - replacing hand mechanical brake
Excellent construction variability of units of this type gives plenty of possibilities to
use not only in regional railways but also in suburban transport. Module design enables to
adjust its transporting capacity according to clients´ demands. Universal construction
design of the driving unit (middle part), from diesel-electric drive aggregate up to
electric traction of 25 kV 50Hz and 15kV 16 2/3 Hz AC, and from 1000 V up to 3000 V DC,
provides possibilities for its use in various types of railway transport with the gauge of
1000 mm or 1435mm. |
