Through EU-funded projects, we modernize our facilities, reduce energy intensity and environmental impact, and actively pursue new technological solutions for greener rail transport.
Implementation of Low-Carbon Heat Production
As part of the project, we retrofitted the boiler plant and transitioned the fuel base to implement low-carbon heat generation, increase the thermal source efficiency, reduce primary energy consumption, and thereby cut greenhouse gas emissions and the environmental footprint in the region.
Reduction of Energy Intensity
As part of the project, we reduced the energy intensity of ŽOS Vrútky a.s. by replacing existing lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting, upgrading building envelope openings (doors and windows), and modernizing elevators. These measures aim to streamline operations, cut energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to lowering the region’s environmental footprint.
Class 861 DMU – Hydrogen Propulsion
We studied the feasibility of replacing the diesel powertrain in Class 861 Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) with a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system. Our focus was on technical solution design, necessary structural modifications, energy management, and safety requirements to lay the groundwork for developing a more advanced, eco-friendly railcar unit.
