Through modernization, we extend the service life of existing rolling stock while enhancing its technical performance, safety, passenger comfort and operational value. A key part of our modernization projects is the implementation of ETCS, preparing vehicles to meet the requirements of safe railway operations today and in the future.
Building on the original vehicle design, we develop and implement comprehensive modernization projects as well as upgrades to individual systems, tailored to the customer’s requirements. We modernize locomotives and passenger coaches – from ETCS, traction and electrical equipment, control and safety systems to carbody structures, bogies, interiors and passenger amenities.
Our solutions combine in-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities with extensive experience gained from the operation, repair and modernization of rolling stock. From Individual Systems to Comprehensive Modernization
We tailor each modernization project to the specific vehicle, its operating profile and the customer’s requirements. We implement individual technical upgrades as well as extensive projects that combine multiple modifications into a fully integrated solution.
A single vehicle may undergo modernization of its signalling and safety systems, control and electrical equipment, driver’s cab, bogies or other structural and technological systems. Thanks to our in-house engineering, manufacturing and testing capabilities, we can manage individual project stages as well as their integration into a complete solution.
Depending on the scope of the modernization, projects also include testing and verification of vehicle functionality following the modifications, as well as the necessary steps towards its return to service. For vehicles intended for international operation, we also support the processes required to obtain the necessary authorizations for operation in individual countries.
ETCS as Part of Comprehensive Modernization
The supply and installation of ETCS is an important part of our modernization portfolio. We do not integrate the system in isolation. Where required, it is integrated with other vehicle upgrades to ensure that the resulting solution meets both operational requirements and the needs of the driver’s cab environment.
We have delivered and installed ETCS on three locomotive classes – 361, 240 and 130. Depending on the vehicle type, these projects also included modifications to the driver’s cab and associated work required to integrate the new equipment.
We can support a modernized vehicle throughout the entire process – from technical design and implementation through testing to preparation for its return to service.
